FAQs

Why join ART Nelson/Tasman?
ART Nelson/Tasman is a platform comprising of a website and social media pages actively promoting artists of the Nelson Tasman region.
We know that artists are always looking for opportunities to showcase your work to a broader audience. This platform can provide you with exposure and promotion, helping you reach a wider demographic.

What do I get?
Your very own artist page will include a 300 word biography, up to 5 photos and you can add links to your own website and social media pages. This will provide you with an opportunity to drive traffic to your own platforms and engage with a wider online community.
You will also get shout out on social media - our Instagram following is growing daily.

How will you promote this platform?
This platform will be featured in well-known local media channels, ensuring your work will be seen by a broader local audience. This exposure can lead to increased recognition and support from our local community. Furthermore we will be reaching out nationally to promote the creative talent in our region. We are creating marketing material to distribute to hospitality, local businesses, stickers with QR codes, and everything else we can do to increase our visibility. Already our friends at the NRDA have given it a thumbs up!

“This is a wonderful resource...I'll be sending this web address to conference organisers to include with Nelson Info that they present to their delegates” - Rita Merriman, Business Events Lead & Events Support Nelson Regional Development Agency

What about search engines?
ART Nelson/Tasman is built using Shopify. Shopify has excellent SEO capabilities and is optimised for search engines. This means that when people search for local artists or artwork online, your artist profile and work will have a higher chance of appearing in search results, further boosting your online presence.

Will you write a feature article if I have some interesting art news?
While local newspapers may not highlight art as much as we'd like, ART Nelson/ Tasman is dedicated exclusively to our local arts scene. We're passionate about putting our talented artists in the spotlight. From exhibitions and gallery openings to artist profiles and cultural events, we're committed to providing comprehensive coverage of all things art in Nelson Tasman. By joining ART Nelson/Tasman, you're not just contributing to a platform; you're shaping the narrative and ensuring that art gets the attention it deserves.

Sheep to Skein: Learn to Spin

Meet the sheep! Experience the feel of 'raw' wool and how to prepare it. Then create a yarn using just your fingers. Progress to spinning a single thread using a simple spindle, then ply the thread to product a yarn with strength and balance, and wind it into a skein ready to knit or weave. When you can do this, progress to using one of several different spinning wheels and learn how to make the necessary adjustments for effortless spinning. Beware: you may have just become addicted!

You will go home with one of more skeins of wool you have spun.
