Cynthia McKenzie discovered pastels and is very enthusiastic about their freshness, colour range and compatibility with her style.

In New Zealand while living in Auckland, she has been a member of the Depot, Estuary Arts, Kumeu Arts and the Lake House arts. She has exhibited with these galleries, at the Royal Easter Show, Kumeu Art in the Garden, the Bruce Mason Centre, Fine Arts Academy (Wellington) The Original Art Sale, and the New Zealand Art Sale (Wellington), Lake House Arts and the annual exhibition of the Pastel Artists of New Zealand.

In May 2009, she had a very successful solo exhibition of her landscapes at the Small Dog Gallery in Devonport and at the Lake House gallery at Takapuna in July 2010. She was part of a group exhibition with three friends 'Paint Talk' at the Depot in July 2012.

In August 2013 she exhibited paintings from her walk on the Camino, the pilgrimage in Spain, titled 'Spanish Steps'. In 2016 after attending the 100 years commemoration at Anzac Cove at Gallipoli, (having got two places in the ballot), Cynthia and her husband Chris showed their work in 'Gallipoli Remembered' at the Depot in Devonport. Cynthia regularly exhibits in the annual exhibition of the Pastel Artists of New Zealand.

Cynthia now lives in Nelson, in the South Island. She is inspired by the beauty of the region and has joined various art groups. Cynthia has many interests, so pastel painting fills her leisure hours, but it is a passion and a pleasure.
